Workshop Description
People like the Bristol Bus Strikers (1963), Tommie Smith (the 1968 Mexico Olympics) and Doreen Lawrence (1993 onwards). The often difficult choices taken by such people changed and shaped the world – and this inspiring workshop celebrates their deeds and legacies through poetry. After engaging pupils in a range of drama-based activities to explore the people and events in question, we’ll introduce them to poetic structures including clerihews and cinquains in which to commemorate their feats.
Exploring (according to age): epic poetry, poetic structures, alliteration, contrasts, rhythm, tone, pace.

FAQs
This workshop can accommodate up-to 30 pupils at a time, in sessions lasting as little as one hour, meaning it is usually possible to have up-to 150 take part over the course of one day.
We will work with you to plan a timetable for the workshops, to suit the number of classes you would like to include - and around the specific timings of your school day. It might look something like this:
9.00 - 10.00: Session 1
10.00 - 11.00: Session 2
11.00 - 12.00: Session 3
LUNCH
1.00 - 2.00: Session 4
2.00 - 3.00: Session 5
Your visitor will need access to a laptop/ screen/projector set up in the working space.
These are active workshops and benefit from a large open space such as the school hall. A large classroom with desks and chairs stowed away as far as possible is fine.
