We have a great track record in designing and delivering conferences that take creative approaches to sharing experiences and extending learning – conferences that engage delegates as active participants rather than as passive consumers. In the past, these have included conferences for teachers (KS4 in Context), young people (My Space, Our Space) and cultural organisations (Finding the Talent) – and just recently we’ve worked with both Liverpool City Council and Symphony Housing in developing innovative ways of engaging their staff.

The brainchild of Liverpool’s Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service, Race Equality 2014 invited teachers, safeguarding officers and equality workers to explore the impacts of recent legislation and consider both promoting equality and challenging discriminatory behaviour. As part of this, we staged The Escalator, a piece of “invisible theatre” that challenged delegates to unpick the bystander experience.  And it was so successful that it was almost over before they realised that they’d been joined by actors!

Symphony Housing have been running a Future Leaders programme for officers working for Contour Homes and Peak Valley Housing Association – and we were commissioned to design the programme’s final session, at Contour’s base in Salford Quays. Supported by the Lantern Company, we engaged participants in drawing together a number of “leadership” strands before working in teams to design and make four large lanterns, each depicting a home. Groups had free range over their designs – and created a castle, a temple, an eco-friendly dwelling and a Victorian terrace!

“It was an absolute pleasure to work with you and to see the as creatives unique approach to leadership – one of the best we’ve seen as an organisation!” (Training Officer, Symphony Housing)
