When students are working hard towards their GCSEs it’s easy for them to forget why they are taking them in the first place. It’s all about preparing them for the future of course, and to give them the best opportunities and as much choice as possible as they reach the end of this phase of their school careers and embark upon the next stage of their lives.
But often, though, they lose sight of the connection between the time spent in school and the world that is their oyster. With PHSE time available St Mary’s College, Crosby, brought in local company as creatives to work with the whole of Year 10 and 11, exploring the ways that the skills they use in school and in their personal lives on a daily basis can be utilised in a more focused way to support them to achieve the goals they set for themselves.
Using The 5Rs (Risk, Resilience, Resourcefulness, Relationships and Reflection) as a framework, the students took part in a series of fun, active and engaging drama and visual arts activities designed to help them both recognise their capabilities in using the skills and consciously consider ways of applying them across their learning.
