New! Performing Shakespeare
Having been put off Shakespeare as a young teenager – by hours spent sitting behind a desk, in a classroom reading his plays – it was only as an actor that I came to find real pleasure in his work. My passion for The Bard grew with every character I had the joy of playing – and now I’d like to offer your pupils the same pathway to finding real enjoyment in the works of Shakespeare!

Workshop Description
Over four days (Monday – Thursday) I will plan a rehearsal schedule in the same way as a professional theatre company.
We’ll begin with a whole-cast read-through before actors are called in groups, to rehearse the scenes – or the section of chorus – that they appear in.
By the third day, we will be ready for a first run-through before rehearsing any sections that need more work ahead of a ‘dress-rehearsal’ on Thursday.
The rehearsal schedule can work around any classes that children can’t miss and can include lunchtime and after-school rehearsals should you wish. By the time I leave school at the end of the day on Thursday, you will have an audience-ready production. Y
ou might choose to invite parents and families to see it on the Friday evening, or to keep the cast rehearsed ready for future performances.
Of course, the benefits to the pupils taking part in a project such this extend well beyond the acting experience and solid grounding in the works of William Shakespeare, including confidence-building, team-working and oracy.
The total price for this 4-day visit to your school, including planning, and travel and accommodation expenses, is £1000.00 + VAT. To find out more or to book your slot for this wonderful experience for your pupils, please email: jo@ascreatives.com
