Maths and Enterprise
Pickhurst Junior Academy supports children in seeing the links between maths and enterprise by holding its annual Enterprise Week during Maths Week London. And we’ve been with the school every year since 2022, delivering different CSI: Maths workshops to different year groups – and sharing our unique (and very energetic!) Enterprise Assemblies with every single class!
Maths from Year 7 to Year 8
Recognising how important the transition from Year 7 to Year 8 is, many London schools stage special “maths” events in the summer term to ease the journey. And, with the capacity to provide a large enough team of experienced practitioners to take the whole year group off timetable for a Big Maths Day, we’ve helped such schools as Kingsdale, Kingsbury and Stockwood Park provide this valuable support to their pupils.

London School Workshop Teacher FEEDBACK
“Our students really enjoyed the workshops and continue to talk about Bookman this week. They particularly loved the assembly and were very shocked when Bookman came stumbling out of the cupboard – this was such a fantastic way to start the buzz and excitement for WBD celebrations. We are currently in the process of putting together a ‘Bookman’ display in our school corridor which continues to encourage the children’s conversations around Bookman. All our children were engaged from Nursery through to Year 6 as it was made relatable and age appropriate for each group – this was really important for us.”
“As Creatives led a wonderful Maths workshop today. The children were buzzing from the assembly at the beginning of the day outlining the ‘Riddle of the Sphinx until the denouement at the end of the day!”
“The girls at Glendower LOVED the workshops! – they enjoyed the workshops immensely and thought the facilitator was fantastic! – they gained confidence around poetry, in addition to understanding the freedom attached to the concept of creating their own poem. We can’t wait to have you back!”
“We’d love to have As Creatives back at school, it’s one of the highlights of the year!”
“The children were super engaged and excited throughout and I had lots of lovely comments from pupils and staff. Chris’ enthusiasm and energy was brilliant and he was clearly very experienced. The day was a great consolidation of what they’d learnt in their lessons so far, and also excitement about what was still to come on their topics. Cross curriculum links were fantastic!”
“We would love to book more sessions in future. The Y4s loved the workshop, were listening and loved doing the drama/acting scenes. They loved creating scenes and asked and answered lots of questions … we would love to book more sessions in future!
“A massive ‘Thank You’ for the Workshops last week. The pupils had a great time and it was wonderful learning about these less well known scientists and inventors. We will look forward to receiving our poems! We will be in touch regarding next year’s dates.”
“We will definitely be looking into some more maths workshops for KS1 later in the year and will be recommending this to other schools that we work with!”
“The children enjoyed the workshops very much. It was very interactive and productive at the same time. The children used their creativity in different ways and collaboration and team work – all skills that we highly value at Thomas’s”
“Chris was phenomenal – all the teachers LOVED his assembly and the children did too. Every member of staff has commented on how good he was with the children – how his pitch was correct and how he delivered it so well. I was so impressed and he really did make the day so special.
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at As Creatives, Zoe was amazing as Captain Sally Morgan and all the children had so much fun! I have had so much positive feedback from the children and staff saying how much they enjoyed the session and how it was tailored to each class’ needs. We loved having Zoe in both schools and I look forward to booking another workshop with you in the future.”
“We have had a wonderful day with Captain Morgan solving pirate mathematical challenges!gan solving pirate mathematical challenges!”
“As part of our Maths week, all KS2 children in the School had the CSI:Maths workshop. The children were buzzing about it all week and realised that Maths can be fun! I would highly recommend it and would not hesitate to use you again in the future”
“All children thoroughly enjoyed the workshops. I had several teachers contact me in the evening to say how engaged the children were with their sessions and how each class had a great time. The students became aware of how everyday objects have been created and how that has impacted the world. They were made aware of Scientists that haven’t always always had the recognition they deserved as well as some more known ones. Thank you. We will look into booking in the future.”
“Thank you for providing us with a great couple of days of Michaela Maths! It was great to see the learners engaged and enjoying themselves. Your enthusiasm and encouragement, together with your penchant for story telling hit just the right note with our learners and it was great that you were able to adapt the activity to suit all age groups and learning needs.”
“The Michaela Maths workshops went really well. Chris was entirely professional and made a great connection with our learners of all ages!”
“Thank you so much for the brilliant workshops you did today. The students really enjoyed them and got a lot from them. I am sure we will be in touch to organise for next year!”
“Jo was absolutely incredible. The children thoroughly enjoyed the assemblies and workshops and the adults were all very impressed with the performances and Jo’s efforts and intelligence. The children learned how poetry can be so much more than rhyme, and how to create brilliant ideas through role play and sharing aloud. I was surprised by Jo’s skill as she had a mastery with behaviour management and a genuine love of learning which inspired and motivated the children – far more than I would expect and have experienced. Just to say thank you so much to Jo, worth every single penny and then some!”
“The children gained more insight on how to expand their creativity within their story/characters and a different way to bring these to life (freeze frames). The theatrical aspects really added to the whole experience for the children, Ryan’s vast array of accents was superb! from a teaching aspect it was very inspiring as has made me think how I could incorporate some of the activities and aspects into my own English lessons, especially the movement aspects. We will definitely be recommending you to other schools and hope to use you again in the future!”
