Specially developed to tie in with the British Science Week 2021 theme of Innovating for the Future, and able to accommodate up to 420 children in a single day, Innovation and Beyond! supports children in exploring some of the amazing innovations that have brought humanity to where it is today – and in imagining where innovation might take us tomorrow. Because your pupils are the innovators of the future!

Innovation and Beyond!

This Big Science Day, which has clear links to the curriculum, has three components …

(1) An interactive, whole-school opening assembly which, with the help of some of your pupils, explores how innovation has taken us from finding fire to striving for the stars!

(2) Tailored workshops for every year group, using age-appropriate drama-based techniques to both bring to life how some of the greatest innovators in history solved the problems of the past and imagine some new innovations designed to rise to the challenges of the future.

(3) Where time allows, a celebratory closing assembly, in which classes work through a structured approach to share what they have learnt with the rest of the school community.

And every school booking Innovation and Beyond! will receive an exciting new resource pack, specially designed to support staff and pupils in follow-up work!

Suitable For: EYFS – Year 6 / P1 - P7

Exploring: scientists, engineers, discoveries and inventions; Stone Age Science (EYFS); Conquering Communications (KS1); Going Green (Years 3 & 4); Succeeding in Space (Years 5 & 6).

Note: Innovation and Beyond! can be adapted to meet individual schools’ Covid-19 policies. In some case, this might reduce the number of pupils who can participate in a single day.

"I would like to thank Ady again for delivering the workshops. His own enthusiasm for science shone through from the start to the end of day.  The fact that the lessons were active and fun enabled the children to learn in a more physical way than that of the normal classroom based teaching of science. This has given some of the teachers ideas for their own way of teaching science for future lessons. I would definitely recommend As Creatives to fellow teachers." Heath Fields Primary

Getting into Innovation

A high-energy, curriculum-linked workshop, packed with fun facts - and accommodating up to 420 pupils in a single day!

Linking perfectly to the theme of British Science Week 2021, “Innovating for the Future” is an amazing way to get children thinking about what innovation “is”, how it applies to their everyday live – and how it can make things easier for us all in the future. The day starts with an interactive, whole-school opening assembly which, with the help of some of your pupils, explores how innovation took us from finding fire to striving for the stars! Classes then take part in a series of high-energy, age-appropriate quizzes (with not a piece of paper to be seen) designed to explore ways that a range of British scientists and engineers have used innovation in the past – and just what might happen in the future.

And every school booking Innovation and Beyond! will receive an exciting new resource pack, specially designed to support staff and pupils in follow-up work!

"All staff have fed back to me about how impressed they were with the workshops, how well the children responded to them and how excellent Chris was as a presenter, making the sessions interactive, engaging and educational for the children.  The workshops have helped support me with my mission to promote working scientifically and develop a love of science in the school." Families Event: Innovating to Save the Planet! (add on session)

If we’re serious about saving planet Earth, it’s becoming more and more obvious that everyone, not just governments and big business, need to take innovative approaches to our daily lives. So, coming at the end of a day of workshops with pupils (and following an opportunity for children to share some of their learning with their parents/carers), this engaging workshop manages to both take a light hearted look at some of the challenges that face the planet and support families in identifying real changes they can make. And by the end of the afternoon, you’ll have your very own school Planetary Innovation Pledges! This unique workshop provides a great way of boosting family engagement – and booking it at the end of a day of our workshops with pupils will allow you to get it all for a fraction of the usual price!
